The digital music industry has been gaining immense growth over the last decade thanks to the consolidation and growth of digital music services for accessing and playing digital music. Some of the biggest players in the digital music space have joined forces to launch Digital Music Europe, an association that will showcase and promote the success of European streaming and music services to policy makers. Spotify, Deezer, SoundCloud, 7digital, Qobuz and market intelligence platform Soundcharts are members. This panel will explore how the market for digital services is developing in Europe, what the goal is of Digital Music Europe and what its priorities in European policy and how the the music sector can anticipate, help and participate to improve the online market.

Olivia Regnier joined Spotify as Director of EU Regulatory Affairs in Brussels in May 2017. She works with European institutions and other stakeholders on a range of legal and policy issues including copyright, e-Commerce, platforms, data protection. She is the Chair of Digital Music Europe, a new association of European digital music services launched in Brussels in November 2018. Previously, she worked for 20 years for the music industry. She was Director of the European Office of IFPI, representing the recording industry worldwide, and lead the industry’s policy work in the EU on copyright reform, e-Commerce, enforcement, licensing.

Robbert Baruch (Amsterdam, 1967) is Manager Public Affairs for Buma/Stemra. He has over 25 years’ experience in various public sector roles. He was involved in political campaigns, lobbying initiatives, commercial transactions and legal, media, civil and market access challenges in The Netherlands and international arenas since the mid-‘90s. Currently he has a role in the lobby for strengthening copyright and improving the possibilities for the creative sector as a whole. Previously he was lobbyist for the insurance sector, and alderman/deputy mayor for the Rotterdam Borough of Feijenoord.

As one of the founders of Dikhoff Van Dongen Advocaten, a Dutch media and entertainment industry focused niche law firm, based in Amsterdam, Rob van Dongen is responsible for the music and ICT practice. He has extensive knowledge of music copyright, neighbouring rights, intellectual property rights privacy and IT law. Rob van Dongen traditionally renders legal services to both artists and companies such as labels and publishers as well promotors, agents and artist managers. He also renders services with regard to information technology, IP and privacy related matters. Before all this, back in the '80 and '90 he played/performed keyboards and vocals in several Dutch bands like Lois Lane and composed/produced together with Prince the Lois Lane album Precious.

Farid Benmbarek (35) is Head of A&R van het belangrijkste onafhankelijke (hiphop)label Top Notch, dat platen heeft gereleased van bekende acts als Extince, Opgezwolle, Typhoon, De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, The Opposites, Kenny B, Broederliefde, Lil Kleine, Ronnie Flex, Lijpe, SBMG, SFB, Jayh en zo gaat de lijst wel even door. Benmbarek heeft radio gemaakt voor JUIZE (dochterzender van Radio 538) met zijn eigen op Nederlandse hiphop & R&B gerichte programma ‘Binnenlandse Zaken', 3FM (3VOOR12XL), was met Zwollenaar Sticks programmamaker en radiopresentator bij Lijn5/FunX en ook nog freelance muziekjournalist voor onder andere State Magazine, ML75 en DJBROADCAST. Het joggingbroekenmerk FREE Pants dat hij samen met muzikale brother in arms Vincent Reinders (22tracks) bestierde is inmiddels ter ziele gegaan, maar ook dat avontuur is met een hiphop state of mind ingestoken. Als lid van de werkgroep Edison Pop is hij de afgelopen jaren mede-verantwoordelijk voor de nieuwe invulling, zeg gerust de “reboot”, van de Edison Awards. Ondanks een achtergrond in Computer Science & Psychologie is muziek de rode draad in zijn leven, het ziet er naar uit dat dat niet snel zal veranderen.
