The internationally acclaimed 'A Greener Festival Award" is back! Re-launched this year, this highly respected award delves deep in to the works of events to assess, share and guide us all towards greater sustainability. Several festivals competed for the award in 2016 and during this ceremony they will hear how they will be rewarded for their efforts.

Ben Eddie (UK) is a production manager with over 7 years’ experience working within live events. Ben has provided site coordination, safety management, sustainability consultancy, and production services to a wide variety of shows, from Arcadia Spectacular at Glastonbury Festival to BBC Children in Need’s CarFest North. He has been closely involved in A Greener Festival both as lead assessor and awards coordinator UK & Europe; working with a range of events from Oslo to Barcelona via Pilton, Somerset. Ben has comprehensive knowledge and experience implementing sustainable practices at an operational level across urban and Greenfield festival sites, and can offer guidance in developing a clear approach to event sustainability, with practical applications threaded throughout planning, delivery, and debrief.

Hedwig Leijten is Senior Advisor Events at the Municipality of Utrecht. In her work she combines a vision regarding the importance of festivals and events for the cities attractiveness, economy and promotion with the care for liveability and the environment. She tries to bring together the so various interests and many stakeholders in this area by taking ‘Healthy Urban Living’ as an important guideline for working together and finding solutions in the fast growing city of Utrecht.

Paul Schurink (NL) works as a power expert in the field of temporary energy supply, sustainability and innovations. Paul has co-founded Green Events Nederland in 2014. This platform inspires organizers to take sustainable measures and gives them independent and competent advice. Green Events functions as a bridge between sustainable event suppliers and organizers and brings these two parties together in a sustainable cooperation. Since 2015, Green Events manages the Green Deal ‘Waste-free Festivals’.

Teresa Moore - Director at A Greener Festival. Teresa is a highly experienced speaker, writer and researcher on music events and sustainability. She is a Director of A Greener Festival, co-founder of the annual Green Events and Innovations (GEI) Conference in London and co- founder of the European sustainability group GO Europe. Formerly Head of Music and Event Management at Bucks New University, Teresa has undertaken many pieces of research into live music and events. Most recently she published the findings of a Live Music Census of Bristol, UK (March 2016) which highlighted the economic and social contribution of grassroots music venues to local economies and the problems small music venues are currently facing in the UK. Teresa presented the findings to the UK’s All Party Parliamentary Committee for Music in Westminster. She has carried out a series of festival surveys looking at audience attitudes and behaviour in respect of environmental issues at music events and in 2013 she partnered with Eco Action Partnership (Isle of Wight Festival) and A Greener Festival to carry out research into camping and waste at festival sites. She has also worked with Julie’s Bicycle researching “Audience Travel to One off Music Events" (2009). Teresa is Editor and contributor to the new Purple Guide for Event Organisers (2014). She is a co-author of “Learning in the Round Concepts and Contexts in Work Based Learning” (2013). She is currently undertaking a PhD in sustainability and event management.
